Are you HOTS?

We launched the first of seven HPI-2 funded HOTS (Housing, Outreach, and Transitional Support) capacity building events yesterday - Feeding Your Soul. Thank you all for coming out and making this event a success!

HOTS-feeding-your-soul-cookies Some highlights of the day included sweet holiday treats like gingerbread men, hot chocolate and apple cider, as well as opportunities to meet and reconnect with colleagues from across York Region. However, the main highlight of the afternoon was an inspiring and uplifting presentation by Dick O'Brien on Surviving the Holidays. What a delight to be reminded of the wisdom of taking care of ourselves first, being present in the moment, recognizing what can or cannot be controlled, and laughter.

Another exciting announcement related to the HOTS Network is that the peer-to-peer online community through the YRAEH website is up and running! This section of the site allows HOTS workers to ask questions, share resources and suggestions specific to your work, post relevant events and annoucnements, and discuss current issues. By creating an account, HOTS workers will be able to engage directly with one another in a private, moderated community to seek specific resources to provde more informed support to their clients.

A Key Leadership Role

"Our recent project working on the transportation needs of the homeless is just one example of the leadership role the York Region Alliance to End Homelessness has taken. They were able to co-ordinate and facilitate the needs assessments, and focus groups. As one agency this is something we would be hard pressed to find the time to do, but participating and giving information to one central organization made it all work."
