Hotties Ending Homelessness Takes 3rd Place
What can you do on a Sunday afternoon with 7 Hotties in cool t-shirts, pajama bottoms, and a shining silver wig at the Aurora Sports Dome? Tackle exciting challenges that both raise awareness and raise money to tackle homelessness in York Region, of course!
In keeping with my last post, this week I'd like to honour Blue Door Shelters. This amazing organization operates as the main shelter provider in York Region with emergency shelter facilities for families (Leeder Place), youth (York Region Youth Shelter), and men (Porter Place). Blue Door Shelters supports individuals with accommodation and food, supportive counselling, referrals to appropriate community services, life skill learning opportunities, and help with finding and maintaining permanent housing.
On Sunday, May 30th, the HOTS Network of YRAEH entered a team called Hotties Ending Homelessness at the 3rd annual Bed Race fundraiser to raise support for Blue Door Shelters. Together we raised a total of $1038.50 (2nd highest amount raised). After successfully completing several tasks on the obstacle course like busting key myths of homelessness, answering some tough trivia, racing a mattress to build a temporary shelter, and piecing together the essentials for a women's shelter in York Region, we are proud to announce that the Hotties came in 3rd place (out of 8 teams) this year. We'll be back to give the reigning champion Pajama Jammers some tough competition next year!
Here are a few highlights of the day. Thanks everyone for supporting the Hotties and for helping us support individuals with the resources needed to get back on their feet!
