On May 26, with the participation of housing advocates, 4 people who have experienced homelessness launched a historic legal challenge against the governments of Canada and Ontario for violating their human rights and the rights of people who are unable to obtain safe, accessible affordable housing.

On October 19, people rallied in cities across Canada in support of Bill C-304, requiring Canada to develop a national housing strategy. The final vote on Bill C-304 is expected soon.

One of the core values of YRAEH is inclusion – to actively seek and value the voices and strengths of individuals with lived experience of being homeless or experiencing risk of homelessness in our work. Today we launch our Hidden in Plain Sight photovoice project on the web. Up to this point, the photographs have been exhibited at a number of venues across York Region including art galleries, a municipal office and a faith community.

There are 228 units of affordable housing for seniors underway in Vaughan – part of the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program.  Funding has been provided through the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program, York Region and the City of Vaughan for two new affordable housing developments for seniors.
