New Report on Health Needs of Homeless and At Risk Individuals in York Region

Anecdotally, we know that individuals who are homeless and at risk of homelessness in York Region face significant challenges to their health in terms of having basic needs met and being able to access health care resources.  Studies documenting the specific health-related challenges of these members of our communities are extremely limited.  With funding provided through the federal Homelessness Partnership Initiative, the York Region Alliance to End Homelessness has recently completed a Needs Assessment on Health and Access among Homeless and At Risk People in York Region

This report is based on input from frontline staff of 15 organizations that participated in a comprehensive survey. The findings of the report are intended to guide and inform the development of specific health initiatives that will improve health and access to care among marginalized individuals in York Region.  The Health Needs Assessment Report is available in the Publications section of the website.  A sister report with additional findings from the study, including trends related to social determinants of health, will also be released in the near future.
